Last week, SCEA director of hardware marketing John Koller stated that a firmware update for PlayStation 3 would bring 3D-stereoscopic gaming and 3D Blu-ray movies. Surprisingly, few images of PlayStation 3.20 debug firmware grabbed by VG247 show '3D Video Output' as an option. Apparently, this 3.20 firmware update is now with the PlayStation 3 developers and no official confirmation date of firmware's arrival has been flagged.
Obviously it's a bit too early to conclude anything since 3D TVs are hardly available in market and Sony also hasn't confirmed any date or specific time period for releasing the respective firmware update for PS 3.
Everybody knows that the 3D Video playback and 3D gaming supporting firmware is basically pointless unless a 3D TV is used along with it. At this moment, the PlayStation 3 firmware is resting at 3.15 and we don't know when would the next firmware update arrive.
Sony will make its 3D capable BRAVIA HD TVs available next month and that's when we can expect the PS3 firmware 3.20 update to come out.
